This is how the Course begins:
This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.
This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
– Introduction, A Course in Miracles
If you are an atheist, have come to this VERY spiritual blog, contributed nothing tangible to its mission, and now see fit to complain about the content of the articles and demand that the author tailor her articles for atheists,
NOW might be a really good time to look inward, and ask whether this is a sane demand or an insane one.
Did you really expect that the answer would be “yes”?
Be aware from the beginning, my dear friends, the Course is strong medicine. It will fix your life. It will heal your body and your soul, and it will give you happiness.
My students who follow my recommendation to study the Course along with my 15-week Miracle Coaching Program get significantly more spectacular results than those who don’t …
But if you still have a high quotient of ego in your belief system, it will also — at first — feel extremely threatening.
There’s no shame in this. When I first started reading the Course in earnest four years ago, I did not use moderation and follow the guidance of reading one lesson per day. Oh no, I dove right in, devoured the book, could not put it down … and as a result I had panic attacks for several weeks as my ego recoiled.
I wouldn’t change a thing about how I approached it.
So … when you freak out upon reading the Course, don’t blame it on the Book. The book is the purest form of Guidance I’ve ever encountered. The problem is not the book. It’s your ego.
And if you blame it on the book, or on religious people, or on God, you are simply GIVING YOUR POWER AWAY.
It’s that simple.
