Last night I did a coaching session over Skype with another guy who met me at First Report from 21 Convention. He mentioned before our call that he had tried Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as EFT or tapping) before with little success. For purposes of this article, we’ll call him Phil.
I set the intention for our session of teaching Phil some EFT tricks and shortcuts that I hoped would dramatically improve his results when he taps by himself.
(My coaching is not about making you dependent on me. It’s about helping you become a fully empowered person who can achieve similar results on your own. That said, I believe that everyone, including all healers and coaches, benefits from continuing to do their own “work” with other experts. I personally continue to work nearly every week with a professional EFT practitioner. In fact, she and I had a hugely clearing session tonight, and I have seen quantum leaps in my life after sessions with her. Working with a professional helps all of us see our blind spots. She and I did an abundance segment tonight, and when I walked out the door and checked my iPhone, I had four new emails from clients! :-)
But I digress …
So Phil kindly sent me this review about his session. What I note about his review is its honesty. I feel very happy to see that because a big part of what we worked on in our session was empowering him to speak his truth.
Here goes:
“I was a little hesitant signing up for the 1 hour EFT session since I’ve done EFT before (by myself), but only saw mediocre results. The issue I was trying to tackle during this session was hesitation- that awful gap of over analyzing before taking action in a social situation. For me, it was filtering what I wanted to say so it would be socially acceptable or to sound “cool”.
Erika guided me through the tapping and we found a couple of key memories linked to this habit of not being able to express my true self. What was nice about it was that Erika was able to sense when I was experiencing anxiety and when I was emotionally clear. To be honest, I did not feel that much better after the 1 hour session, especially after reading about other’s people’s results on the testimonial page.
The next day, I did 2 more tapping sessions by myself, using the tapping model that Erika showed me and implementing some of the techniques that we talked about.
The results? I was hanging out with a group of people later that day and noticed that I cared a lot less about what they were thinking about me and focused on how I wanted to express myself. I remember the last time I hung out with them, I was in my head and pretty outcome dependent. But this time, I was contributing to the vibe and having fun rather than worrying about how I appeared. I felt words flow from my mouth at times. However, I did say some really stupid things, but I didn’t really care that I said them and as a result, neither did anyone else. Erika’s 1 hour session provided me with a model that I can use anytime to defeat virtually any limiting belief over time.
Overall, the session was a great success and I highly recommend trying it. Thank you Erika!”
Thank you, Phil. I *love* how he’s honest about not feeling a quantum leap right after our session. Sometimes EFT is like that. Sometimes we see the results immediately, and sometimes we suddenly notice three weeks later that “something is different.” A certain obsessive thought has vanished. Or we find ourselves easily taking a big step that seemed impossible before. And then we think back to that EFT session a few weeks before, and say “oh yeah, I remember now that I tapped on this.”
I also *love* that he did the EFT homework I suggested to him.
Most of all, I love that the intention we set for the session was fulfilled: Phil now knows how to use EFT in a way that he can achieve significant results by tapping on his own.
I’m feeling good. Life is good :-)
I wanted to add that, although it's wonderful that Phil is caring less about what other people think of him, I note in his review that he still was thinking that he said things that were "stupid."
In our next session, I would work with Phil on that belief, because in truth nothing we say is stupid. So EFT can be used to erase the negative, self-judging voice in our
